The role of the Assistant Business Controller is integral to the strategic and operational management of financial aspects within the HK & Macao retail sector. The position demands a candidate with an exceptional grasp of analytical methodologies and a deep understanding of business dynamics. This role will primarily concentrate on providing robust regular reporting, budgeting, and forecasting functions. Additionally, it will involve a strong focus on optimizing financial performance through meticulous control of operational expenses and enhancing overall business efficiency.

 

 

Job responsibilities

Your Mission (Main Responsibilities)

  • Budgeting and Forecasting: Take charge of constructing comprehensive budgets in alignment with HQ’s directives. Lead the preparation process for all budget-related documentation and presentations.
  • Analysis: Utilize strong analytical skills to develop coherent reports underpinning business decisions. Provide relevant management recommendations based on thorough analysis outcomes.
  • Reporting: Oversee the creation of monthly management reports while refining reporting processes to suit complex business models.
  • Control: Administer daily financial operations ensuring adherence to regulatory standards, accounting principles, and internal controls.

Your Competencies and Experience (skillset requirements)

  • Strategic Thinking: Demonstrated ability in designing financial strategies that align with the company's long-term goals. Ability to forecast future financial trends and incorporate strategic initiatives into the planning process.
  • Analytical Skills: Expert-level proficiency in quantitative analysis, including the capability to interpret complex financial data, statistical models, and key business indicators. Skilled at using advanced data analytics tools for predictive modeling; comfortable making high-stakes decisions backed by rigorous data analysis.
  • Financial Acumen: Extensive knowledge of financial concepts such as revenue growth analysis, cost management, capital budgeting, investment analysis, and economic value added (EVA). Understanding how various scenarios may impact the P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
  • Technical Proficiency: Mastery of financial software programs and ERP systems. Familiarity with Business Intelligence (BI) tools such as Tableau or Power BI for creating dashboards that visualize complex datasets.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong aptitude for identifying problems within financial plans and developing creative solutions that minimize risk while maintaining an aggressive growth stance.
  • Communication Skills: Exceptional interpersonal skills to effectively communicate financial insights and recommendations to non-financial stakeholders. Ability to create reports that are accessible and engaging for diverse audiences. Persuasive communication skills are crucial when presenting findings or securing buy-in for proposals.
  • Adaptability & Continuous Improvement: Openness to learning new processes or adopting innovative technologies that improve efficiency and accuracy in forecasting. Comfortable with change management within a dynamic corporate environment.
  • Business Partnership Mindset: Strong capabilities in partnering with other business units are needed. This entails understanding core business operations beyond finance—like sales, marketing, procurement—and ensuring that financial plans align with operational realities and strategic objectives.
  • Experience: minimum 5 years of experience in FP&A related financial roles
