Well before he embarked on his destiny as a couturier, Christian Dior was fascinated with art. The young Normandy native and several friends opened an art gallery when he was just 23. In 1938 he learned the métier of pattern cutter with Robert Piguet and three years later began working as a designer for Lucien Lelong. Right from the founding of his Maison in 1946, he transformed his dreams into irresistible creations, seeking to break with the somber war years by elevating pure joy. His visionary spirit celebrated and enchanted women the world over. In only ten years, Monsieur Dior revolutionized the conventions of elegance and femininity, designing collections infused with dreams.

Boldly proclaiming the New Look, the Bar jacket was unveiled at Christian Dior’s very first fashion show on February 12, 1947, affirming a timeless essence and an enduring beauty that is continually revisited. Perpetuating this deep admiration, the House of Dior today operates as a creative laboratory in motion, open onto the world, its challenges and its cultures, to dream up timeless, sustainable and responsible icons, with the aim of building a more desirable future.

OUR EXCEPTIONAL TALENTS

I’m the Premier d’Atelier, or Head Tailor, for ready-to-wear at Christian Dior Couture, which means I supervise the making of the clothes in the workshop. My task begins when I receive the studio sketches for the runway show, annotated by Maria Grazia Chiuri, our Artistic Director. I next get together with my teams and begin by distributing the sketches to the pattern makers. Then I check their work and make adjustments if needed to make sure everything is exactly the way Maria Grazia wants it. We continue until we have a finished garment with the actual fabric, perfectly crafted and ready for the runway show.
