The Olympic Games Paris 2024 got off to a majestic start as the City of Light dazzled during a breathtaking Opening Ceremony. The boldly innovative ceremony was conceived by Thierry Reboul, Creative Director of Paris 2024 and Thomas Jolly, Artistic Director for the show, who transformed the Seine into a vast flowing playground to share this universal celebration of sports with huge numbers of spectators and viewers. 

In a first-ever format, the parade of athletes began at 7:30 p.m. as boats carrying national delegations glided down the Seine from east to west through the heart of Paris. The 6,800 athletes covered 6 kilometers between the Pont d’Austerlitz and the Pont d’Iéna, arriving in front of the Trocadéro towards 11 pm for a final scene blending protocol and captivating scenes as the Paris 2024 Olympic Flame was lit.

Dior haute couture creations for artistic performances during the Opening Ceremony  

For this unique Opening Ceremony on the Seine, Maison Dior creations elevated a collective score that unfolded over five scenes. The Ateliers Dior pushed the limits of excellence further than ever to achieve creative feats in record time, mobilizing the historic workshop at 30 Montaigne and the Maison's embroiderers, who spent thousands of hours on the designs. All the creations presented in the five scenes during the Opening Ceremony were entirely made in Paris. 

Dressed in Dior, as were her ten dancers, Lady Gaga performed the iconic "Mon truc en plumes", an homage to Zizi Jeanmaire and the cult choreography of Roland Petit – for whom Christian Dior designed ballet costumes. The performance offered a contemporary ode to the spirit of French Cabaret and to the wonderful dialogue with the arts that the House of Dior has continued to nurture since its founding in the heart of Paris in 1946. 

Aya Nakamura and her six dancers on the Pont des Arts were magnificently adorned in gold, Dior's iconic color. To create the outfit, thousands of gold-colored feathers were meticulously positioned one by one by hand, like a second skin evoking the Phoenix. 

The major contribution of Dior to the Opening Ceremony was featured in a tableau with Axelle Saint-Cirel singing La Marseillaise on the roof of the Grand Palais, wearing an absolutely spectacular dress measuring more than 8 meters long. The construction of the dress starts from the French flag and morphs into a dress thanks to the incredibly skillful draping savoir-faire for which Dior is renowned. She was accompanied by a choir of extraordinary women on the Pont Alexandre III, also wearing Dior.  

Juliette Armanet and her accompanying pianist Sofiane Pamart wore two unique creations made in collaboration with the talented embroiderer Clara Daguin, pushing the boundaries of contemporary craftsmanship. Performing from a boat, they performed the highly symbolic "Imagine" by John Lennon, an ode to peace that is more essential and universal than ever. Thanks to an ingenious programming system, the lights incorporated in the embroideries – a signature of Clara Daguin, who collaborated with the Ateliers Dior to dream up this astonishing performance creation – were synched with the rhythm of the song. 

And in an incredible grand finale, global star Céline Dion gave a grandiose and scintillating performance from the first floor of the Eiffel Tower. Thousands of pearls and more than 500 meters of fringe were embroidered directly on Celine Dion’s body. Thanks to this amazing embroidery technique, which Dior has perpetuated over the decades, they seem to come to life and vibrate to the rhythm of the star’s performance.  

Louis Vuitton, values of excellence that resonate with the Maison’s creations for the Paris 2024 Games   

Louis Vuitton is contributing to the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 with bespoke versions of its iconic trunks to safeguard unique symbols of the Olympic Games. The Medals Trunks safeguard and showcase the medals designed by Chaumet, while the Torch Trunk housed the Olympic Torch during its journey across France to Paris. The trunks are covered in Louis Vuitton’s iconic Monogram and Damier canvases respectively, embodying over 170 years of savoir-faire. 

Louis Vuitton is proud to figure at the heart of the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony through three breathtaking scenes, from the rooftops of Paris to the workshop where Louis Trunks are crafted and the Seine, showcasing 170 years of savoir-faire. 

A compelling tableau vivant featured the pure symbols of Olympism, the medals, an emotionally charged moment since they constitute the ultimate dream of all the athletes. The scene began on the rooftops of Louis Vuitton’s Pont Neuf headquarters. In a daring staging, a masked torchbearer nimbly bounded through the Maison’s workshops as a combination of acrobatics and gestures requiring exceptional savoir-faire revealed each stage in the creation of the Louis Vuitton Medals Trunk. After carrying the trunk in front of the iconic Louis Vuitton headquarters façade, performers and trolleys paraded along the Pont Neuf in a travel-inspired choreography to the Monnaie de Paris, the Paris Mint, for a discovery of how the medals were made before they were carefully placed in their Louis Vuitton case. Following another choreography on the quays of the Seine, the trunk continued its journey on the water as the last of the Medals Trunks was  loaded onto a boat to join the two other Medals Trunks on their way to Trocadéro.  

The sequence continued on the roof of the Hôtel de Ville – Paris city hall – with a spectacular dance by Guillaume Diop, danseur étoile at the Opéra National de Paris, wearing Louis Vuitton. Promoted principal dancer in 2023, Guillaume Diop is the first black dancer to be awarded this supreme accolade.  

Shortly afterwards, Louis Vuitton was again in the spotlight thanks to Rim’K, the Franco-Algerian star rapper of the group 113 and producer. Dressed in Louis Vuitton, his song was a dynamic and spectacular fusion of dance and sports. 

Finally, Shaheem Sanchez, the Deaf American Sign Language dancer, also wearing Louis Vuitton, starred in a special duo at Trocadéro with Cerrone, an emblematic French musician from the 70s.  

Berluti: Team France outfits for the Olympic and Paralympic Games Paris 2024 Opening Ceremonies  

For the Opening Ceremony Berluti has styled custom-tailored ensembles for Team France athletes and coaches that embody ‘élegance à la française’. The French Maison has crafted tuxedo-inspired outfits with a unique ‘French flag’ patina of blue and red shades. The outfits are paired with an iteration of Berluti’s Shadow emblematic navy blue sneakers in France’s national colors for men, and either the supple leather Lorenzo loafers or Shadow sneakers for women. This historic collaboration is a first for Berluti in outfitting women as the Maison rises superbly to the challenge of an event of this magnitude, ensuring that each member of Team France becomes a distinguished ambassador of French art de vivre on the global stage.  

The exquisitely-dressed French team paraded along with the other 205 delegations along the 6-kilometer route on the Seine from the Pont d’Austerlitz to the Trocadéro, where they proudly disembarked before French President Emmanuel Macron IOC President Thomas Bach and the members of the International Olympic Committee, Paris 2024 President Tony Estanguet and VIP guests, including numerous heads of state.  

Moët Hennessy and the French art of hospitality 

During the Opening Ceremony route and in particular at the Pont de la Concorde, transformed into a prestigious hospitality venue, and throughout the Games, Moët Hennessy's wine and spirits Houses are providing products for hospitality programs, bringing guests exceptional tasting experiences.
