Nicolas Ghesquière imagined an exhilarating train adventure, connecting with Louis Vuitton’s core travel DNA.
The Artistic Director of Women’s Collections drew inspiration in particular from legendary German electro group Kraftwerk’s iconic album Trans Europe Express, encapsulating the spirit of silhouettes in movement.
At L’Étoile du Nord, a little-known 1845 building adjacent to the Gare du Nord, plays of light channeled the aesthetic and mood of a train station concourse. A multitude of stylistic narratives play out amidst the flow of emotions, from the excitement of departure to the comfort of return, from melancholy separation to eagerly-awaited return. The first incandescent looks set the tone with translucent trenchoats and cinematographically-ready floral slip dresses. Red ruffs embellish necks and plaid blankets are wound into dresses. Multi-tiered skirts impart rhythm to each step.
Travelers in eternal transit with their double checkerboard satchels around their waists, touring musicians and travelers in a hurry with graphic prints rub shoulders in this crossroads of creations. The collection seamlessly transitions from functional pieces such as parkas to jackets with a time-worn patina, shearling coats and oversized leather bombers. Poised between platforms, the women crown their looks with an array of headwear, from turbans and wool ushanka hats to exaggerated bucket hats. Louis Vuitton luggage is a faithful companion on these stories of adventure and enchantment. The timeless shape of the Keepall announces the new L’Express, defined by soft lines. Before the train pulls away with an air of suspense, the final looks highlight a delicate cape accessorized with a watch worn as a necklace, subtly evoking the mastery of time as the most precious possession of all.
