IdentityVEUVE CLICQUOT

The Champagne House was founded in 1772 by Philippe Clicquot, a textile merchant from Reims. When his son, François Clicquot, unexpectedly died in 1805, Barbe Nicole Clicquot Ponsardin, his young widow, took over the reins of the House, aged 27—a real feat in the 19th century for this bold, passionate woman! At a time when women's rights were much more restricted, she was determined "not to rely on anyone." Driven by an uncompromising vision and an inventive spirit, Madame Clicquot created the first vintage champagne in 1810. A few years later, in 1816, she invented the riddling table, and in 1818 produced the first blended rosé champagne.Veuve Clicquot is defined by its quest for excellence, its love for the Pinot Noir, and its mastery of the art of aging. From harvest to shipment, Veuve Clicquot always bears Madame Clicquot's instructions in mind: "Our wines must be flattering both to the palate and the eye."Madame Clicquot left the House with a legacy of optimism, excellence, audacity and an innovative spirit, which continues to inspire us today.
Veuve Clicquot has an exceptional oenological heritage, which features the largest palette of reserve wines. It can be traced back directly to the vision of an exceptional woman with a passion for Pinot Noir. I’m delighted to perpetuate more than two centuries of expertise and excellence, and to design iconic cuvées such as Brut Yellow Label and La Grande Dame.
