Moynat was established in 1849 as a House specialized in trunk making. Its founder, Pauline Moynat, invented the "English Trunk" as early as 1873. First trunk to be coated in gutta-percha, a then newly-discovered vegetal gum from Indonesia. This revolutionary waterproof canvas becomes a major pillar in the House’s reputation for innovation and technical excellence. In the early 1900s the 'M' monogram, newly introduced by Henri Rapin, was hand-painted on the trunks’ canvas, immediately recognizable as the signature of the House. The M collection is the latest expression of this archive monogram, a fusion between the House's traditional heritage and ongoing commitment to contemporary innovation.

The M collection is the latest expression of the archive monogram created by Henri Rapin, a fusion between the House's traditional heritage and ongoing commitment to contemporary innovation. The collection is available in vibrant colours ranging from red, blue, green, yellow, orange to black and white, brown, and grey.The iconic bag shapes from the House are reimagined; totes in small, medium, and large sizes, 48h duffle bag, mini 48h, bucket bag, camera bag, besace bag, and in hard-sided versions like the little suitcase and wheel. Passport and cardholders, as well as address tags are also part of the collection.

THE GABRIELLE

The Gabrielle is the epitome of Moynat's expression in mastering of leather goods and accessories. It features a metallic 'M' twist closure with curved stitching, a reminiscent of the archival signature Limousine Trunk designed by Pauline Moynat.

OUR EXCEPTIONAL TALENTS

I’m a Leather Goods Prototypist at Moynat, which involves creating prototypes from the designer’s sketches. After discussing the piece with the designer I make the first template, the model for a leather goods item. Then I assemble an initial piece in a material called salpa, which is very similar to leather, to check that the assembly functions correctly. Once everything has been confirmed, I make the prototype using the actual materials, such as leather, creating a product just like one that could be sold. And lastly we make final adjustments with the designer, who approves the model. All the work I do is executed entirely by hand, a hallmark of Moynat.
