IdentityCHANDON ARGENTINA

Arriving at Chandon Estate, in Mendoza, sixty years on from its founding, your eyes are still drawn to the mountain view. But if Chandon’s pioneers were to arrive here today, they might not recognize the place.Robert-Jean de Vogüé search for the best terroirs turned into an epic journey. Eventually, his heroic 2CV brought him and Renaud Poirier, Chandon Argentina first Chief winemaker, to a place near Mendoza: the high, pure land they had dreamed of. Its unique situation and dramatic climate, with its wild seasonal and daily temperature variations, thrilled them.Chandon Argentina is nested, in Agrelo near Luján de Cuyo, in the Andean foothills, at an elevation of above 1000m.

I’m from Mendoza I was born here. There’s nowhere else quite like it on the planet. It’s an extreme climate, a desert. There are no bodies of water nearby to give a moderating effect. But what we do have are the magical, awe inspiring Andes mountains a marvel of nature. They’re a 7,000m barrier between us and the Pacific, so we’re in a rain shadow. Vines thrive on limited water. They are also hardy plants that adapt well. But fruit does need some water. All our water is Andean meltwater. Our conditions give our wine a very special quality. You get wines with absolute, untainted purity of expression.

CHANDON EXTRA-BRUT
Vibrant and Elegant, it is CHANDON Argentina’s great classic sparkling wine, an assemblage of the best Chardonnay and Pinot Noir grapes. The result is a fresh, fruity, elegant, creamy, well-balanced fizz with notes of citrus, peach and apple.

EVERYONE IS WELCOME AT OUR TABLE

The pioneers’ makeshift barracks are long gone. Tour the bodega today, and in their place you’ll find architecture that nods to Chandon's European ancestry in a setting that’s unmistakably New World. There are orderly home vineyards, a winery inspired by French orangery architecture, tall poplars and carefully tended kitchen gardens.Nothing in wine compares to the experience of tasting in situ. Visitors enjoy a range of experiences, from tours of our home vineyard to blind tastings to blending exercises. Our bistro gives a window on to the gastronomic possibilities of our sparkling wines; we challenge our chef to create dishes to match the wines. But the truth is that at Chandon Argentina we have a wine to complement almost any kind of food.

TOWARDS A SUSTAINABLE AND RESPONSIBLE FUTURE

We are committed to securing a more sustainable and socially responsible future, and as our first house, Chandon Argentina – operating in a rural area where limited means are a daily reality for much of the population – is leading the way. We have put in place several environmental and social initiatives, from art instruction at local schools to basket-weaving from waste plastic.Educate in Harvest is one of these.
“Our programs have an impact on more than 1,500 kids and 60 public school teachers from 18 rural public schools close to the winery”.
